Irish Candles

Irish Candles
Henry Matthew Ward

In Ireland, on every bless'd Christmas Eve,
The candles are set in the windows to leave
A light for the Christ Child to see on His way.
And only a woman who carries the honor
Of having the sweet name of Mary upon her
May snuff out the church candles on Christmas Day.
